MANCATION!

It's June and it's still raining in the northwest. Boo hoo.... Well, some of the men of RoC decided to take matters into their own hands. We decided if the Sun would not come to us, we would go find it. So, it was off to blistering sunny Arizona! I somehow ended up being responsible for taking pictures of our trip. It is quite obvious that I lack in this skill, but I tried to remember to take enough pictures to chronicle this trip. For all the wives who might wonder what their husbands were up to, hope this paints somewhat of a picture.

All of us were excited to be on our way. It was quite obvious who was the most excited. Check out that smile!

We landed and got our pimped out rental car (Dodge Caravan). We managed to get lost and wander around but finally ended up at our condo. The digs were simple but perfect since all we needed was a place to sleep. The beds were more uncomfortable than the bed I slept on in college, but turns out it didn't matter since I slept on the couch. My roomie (Gerald) it seems has a hard time sleeping with my snoring, so after the first night, I moved to the living room. It worked out cuz it turns out that Kev's roomie (Eric) also snores up a storm. By the second night, Kev and Gerald were rooming and Eric had his own room.

After we got to the condo and dropped off our stuff, Kev and I had to go back to pick up Gerald. After picking him up, we had to stop by to pick up In-n-Out for everybody.

We were so hungry, we couldn't wait until we got home to eat. By the time we got home, all the oldies sleeping except for Lloyd.

Day 1. 36 holes at Troon North, one of the highest rated courses in Arizona. We got there early and warmed up. Weather was perfect! 90 with a refreshing breeze. 1st tee shot. Ready, set......

Go!

Step back and admire.

Series of action photos from Day 1. Eric, Lloyd, Eric vs. Gerald, Kevin, Dan. We call it team white vs team black according to hair color. hehe

Team white won the first 18 by a lot! Lunch was on the losers. Kobe beef burgers in the clubhouse.

We played from 8am to 6pm. Team black won the 2nd round in convincing fashion. Dinner at CPK. Chalk one up for the young guys.

Chicken Tequila Fettucine. If you haven't tried it, you just don't know.

We spent quite a bit of time in our pimpmobile (aka dodge caravan). Not shown; Dan and Gerald cramped in the third row. Age matters. Day 2. On the way to Rancho Manana.

Action! New teams: Dan, Lloyd, Eric J vs. Gerald, Kevin, Eric K. Special guest: Robin Kwon.

Eric holding the finish... He must like it.

Another full 36 holes of golf=9 hours of golfing in nearly 100 degress weather. Results for day 2: Kevin, Gerald, and Eric K win both rounds. Free lunch for them! For dinner, we searched high and low and found a Korean restaurant. Sorry, no pictures, but plenty of kalbi and nengmyun.

Day 3. Legend at Arrowhead. Back to the old team vs young team. I mean white/gray vs black. Meet team white below.

Meet team black.
Day 3 results: 2 wins for team black. The second 18 was played in a scramble. For dinner we went back to the same Korean restaurant. I guess we're not as American as we thought.

Day 4. 18 holes only at Ocotillo Golf Club because we had to fly out that afternoon. =( Teams for day 4, same as day 3. Team white wants revenge. Action photo of Robin on the 18th hole.

Day 4 results: Team black wins again!

1st Annual Roc Golf Trip individual awards:
Most time spent on the phone talking to wife award goes to....... (drum roll please!)

Kevin Shim by a landslide!

And the 2008 RoC Trip Championship goes to........

KEVIN SHIM!!! Again, by a landslide.

The tradition begins.... The winner from the previous year is responsible for bringing an ugly blazer the next year and present it to the new champion. I can't wait to win. I have the perfect houndstooth blazer. It's actually pretty sweet.

The end of a great trip.

A few other facts about the trip. Playing 36 holes of golf a day in near triple digit weather is tiring and leaves you quite sore. Our remedies: 1. Dr Jung's herbal patches (oriental ben-gay?) proved useful for Kev's back, Gerald's hip, and Lloyd (not sure where he was hurting, but he was using it as well) 2. Drugs. Ibuprofen (we had to make a stop to re-load because we used up the first bottle), Tylenol, For some, a nice concoction of both. 3. Hot tub. That's a good way to end the day and relax sore muscles. Another problem is the potential of dehydration and heat stroke. The solution, lot's and lot's and lot's of Gatorade and water. You know when you drink 2 bottles of gatorade and 10 cups of water and still don't have to go pee, you're doing some sweating. We are hardcore golfers. We played 7 rounds of golf in 4 days. On the plane ride back, Kev sat next to a guy who played 17 rounds in 8 days. Maybe we're not that hardcore. Either way, fun was had by all. Sorry this blog was so long. I had to post all the pics so that the participants could download the pictures of themselves.

i must say...you guys are golf fanatics. At first I thought you went to Arizona for some C.E.'s, but it turns out it was just for golf. wow. even though I can't comprehend how someone can play so much golf it kinda stinks i'll probably never go on a golf mancation...unless I go as someone's personal caddy i guess. oh well...i think i enjoy regular vacations better anyway. maybe you guys will go on a regular vacation with me someday?
